Nada Foundation Hosts Empowering Event in Newcastle for Women and Girls
The Nada Foundation, a major advocate in the fight against domestic violence and child marriage, recently hosted a significant event in Newcastle. Leaders from civil society, human rights activists, and representatives of churches and community organizations attended. The event focused on building partnerships aimed at supporting vulnerable women and girls.
Gateway Church and Nada Foundation: Strengthening Ties for Change
Sam Douthwaite, Event Manager from Gateway Church, opened with an impactful speech. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between faith-based organizations and community groups like the Nada Foundation. “Our partnership empowers vulnerable women and girls,” Douthwaite stated. He stressed the need for collective efforts to tackle the pressing issues of child marriage and domestic violence. These challenges, he explained, require unity and action from all sectors of society.
Nada Alahdal: From Survivor to Global Advocate
Next, Nada Alahdal, Trustee and CEO of the Nada Foundation, delivered a deeply moving speech. She recounted her own story, narrowly escaping a forced child marriage. Alahdal also shared her sister’s near-suicide at the age of 13 and her aunt’s tragic death at 12 after being forced into marriage. “If programs like ‘Brighter Futures for Women’ had existed back then, my aunt might still be with us today,” she said emotionally. Her personal story resonated with the audience, further underscoring the foundation’s vital work.
Shifting the focus, Alahdal discussed the foundation’s plans for growth. She highlighted the critical support she received from the UK. “This country gave me safety and opportunity. Now, I want to help others facing similar struggles,” she said.
Brighter Futures for Women: A Pathway to Empowerment
After Alahdal’s powerful message, Liz Douthwaite, Event Planner for the Nada Foundation, introduced the Brighter Futures for Women initiative. This project aims to equip wo
men and girls with tools to rebuild their lives, focusing on skills training and psychological support. Liz encouraged the audience to get involved by volunteering or partnering with the foundation. “The community’s engagement is essential for the success of our programs,” she emphasized.
Audience Involvement: A Forum for Dialogue
Following the presentations, Alahdal and Jashpal Kaur, Trustee and Manager, led a Q&A session. Audience members asked about the foundation’s strategies for supporting survivors of domestic violence and child marriage. Alahdal and Kaur explained the importance of education, legal assistance, and community initiatives in breaking cycles of abuse. “Our goal is to offer more than just immediate help. We empower women to regain control of their futures,” Kaur noted.
Networking: Strengthening Community Connections
The event concluded with a networking session. Attendees connected with representatives from various organizations, exchanging ideas and discussing potential collaborations. The room buzzed with energy as participants brainstormed ways to support the foundation’s mission. During this session, attendees received brochures and program details while enjoying refreshments. Many expressed interest in volunteering or partnering with the foundation, showing strong commitment to its cause.
Acknowledging the Team Behind the Success
In her closing remarks, Alahdal expressed gratitude to the team that worked tirelessly to make the event possible. She thanked Shalam Noor, Trustee and Manager, for overseeing event logistics. She also praised Dima Kassem, Manager of Volunteers, Ahmed Najim, Grant Writer, Brigitte Tissen, Crowd Manager, and Micheal McGorlick, Event Coordinator, for their dedication and hard work.
“Our team made this event a reality,” Alahdal said. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and excited about the future of the foundation.”
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Mission
The event left attendees inspired to take action. Many pledged to support the Nada Foundation through donations, volunteering, or advocacy. Brochures and cards circulated to encourage ongoing engagement with the foundation and its mission to protect women and girls from violence.
The Newcastle event was more than just a gathering. It demonstrated how communities can unite to address urgent social issues. Through partnerships, education, and sustained support, the foundation is making significant progress in the fight against domestic violence and child marriage.
The Future: Expanding Reach and Impact
Looking ahead, the Nada Foundation plans to expand its impact globally. As it grows, the foundation remains committed to its mission of empowering women and girls. Supported by a strong team, dedicated volunteers, and strategic partners, the organization is poised to make lasting change in the lives of those most vulnerable.
Recognizing the Support Behind Brighter Futures for Women
One of the key highlights of the event was acknowledging the generous support of the National Lottery Community Fund, which awarded the Nada Foundation a grant of £20,000 for its Brighter Futures for Women project. This significant contribution will help the foundation continue its vital work in supporting women and girls who have survived domestic violence and child marriage.
Nada Alahdal, Trustee and CEO, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Community Fund during her speech. “This donation allows us to expand our reach and provide even more support to vulnerable women and girls,” Alahdal stated. “Without this kind of financial backing, our mission would be much harder to achieve. We are deeply grateful for their belief in our cause and their generous contribution.”
The funds from the Community Fund will be instrumental in providing skills training, psychological support, and other essential services through the Brighter Futures for Women initiative, ensuring these women and girls have the tools to rebuild their lives.
By empowering women and girls, the Nada Foundation is helping to build a future where everyone can live free from violence and exploitation. The Newcastle event underscored the foundation’s vital role in the community and its ongoing dedication to creating positive social change.
